Director of Photography & Colourist

As part of my Final Year Project, we worked closely with SAFRA Singapore to produce a short film to appreciate NSmen in a way that was never been done before, through a short film.  The film was used as a promotional video to appreciate NSmen as part of the SAF60 campaign.
Genre: Drama

Synopsis: Wen Jie, a disinterested teenager, resents his father, a humble ice cream cart vendor who insists on giving discounts to national servicemen, although he doesn’t earn much. When his father falls ill, Wen Jie, desperate to raise money for his father’s treatment and to make ends meet, secretly takes over the cart to sell ice cream, struggling to do so. Just as he begins to lose hope, a group of national servicemen who are regular customers of his father step in to help in ways he never expected. Wen Jie managed to make more money with their support and by not offering any discounts to national servicemen. When his father finds out, he is disappointed with Wen Jie but begins to realise how the situation has affected his son. He shares the real reason for his deep appreciation for national servicemen, changing Wen Jie’s view of his father and inspiring Wen Jie to continue their shared legacy.

Melt offers a meaningful reminder that national servicemen serve to keep their loved ones and Singaporeans safe, and every act of support by the community, both big and small, can help to make national servicemen feel appreciated for their sacrifices.
